Ella Jo Baker Movement School (EJBMS)
Turning Apathy into Analysis into Action
Mission
The Ella Jo Baker Movement School (EJBMS) is a program of All Streets, All People (ASAP) and a year-round training institution for everyday people committed to building the skills, analysis, and leadership required to win—and wield—people power.
EJBMS exists to develop grassroots organizers who understand that real change comes not from saviors or soundbites, but from organized communities acting with intention, discipline, and vision.
Our Roots & Legacy
The Ella Jo Baker Movement School is grounded in the organizing philosophy of Ella Josephine Baker, a legendary movement strategist who believed that strong movements are built by ordinary people learning how to lead together—not by charismatic figureheads speaking for them.
Ella Baker taught that leadership is not rare, special, or reserved for the few. It is a skill that can be nurtured in everyone. Her commitment to collective leadership, political education, and grassroots power building continues to guide every aspect of this movement school.
“Give light and people will find the way.” – Ella Josephine Baker
